Viola striata


	Perennial. Stemmed. Stems glabrous, 1 or more, clustered from the summit of the rhizome. Flowers are borne on peduncles that arise from leaf axils on above-ground stems. An individual stem may bear more than one flower. Cleistogamous flowers emerge from leaf axils of above-ground stems in summer. Stolons are not produced. Flowers: Petals are white to cream-color, with purple veins, especially on the spurred petal. Petals lack yellow patches. Lateral petals are bearded. Sepals are short ciliate. The spur is up to 4 mm long. Leaves: Ovate, sometimes broadly so, glabrous, with obtuse to rounded tips, and evenly short-toothed margins. Capsule: Plants of rich, mesic, deciduous forests; stream banks; gravel bars; alluvial soils. Flowering late April through May. Native. Similar species: Viola canadensis.
